Fall

Our Kidizens Fall program is a highly interactive, fun and immersive project-based learning session in which students meet once a week to build, manage and govern their own LEGO city.

NEW**This year we are very excited to introduce a revised curriculum incorporating many urban planning, sustainability, environmental, and science, engineering concepts utilizing motors, axles, gears and robotic kits.

Overview:

14-week session, where children collaboratively build and learn the day-to-day civic and economic concepts of managing a city, and as such develop design thinking, problem solving, social and leadership skills.

Cities are given a huge swath of LEGO land on which kidizens create their own small civilization and manage basic infrastructure and services while learning about many concepts in civics, social studies, and economics.

Kidizens serve on a city council and may run for an elected position as Mayors, Judges, doctors, lawyers, fire chiefs, Sheriffs, Safety Inspectors and in many other roles, while improving self-confidence and developing leadership skills.

The kidizens also manage city budgets, enact laws, cope with natural disasters and crises. They also interact with other cities and cooperate on various issues, as they develop problem solving and analytical thinking skills.

Teachers provide historical and local perspectives through lessons on related civic and economic topics and guide students to learn through the consequences of their own actions while encouraging “out of the box” and critical thinking.

Many engineering and robotic elements are intertwined into various city units (motorized controls, draw bridges, moving conveyor belts, sensors and lights) to teach kids basic concepts in science and engineering.

Exciting Field Trips to the local City Hall, Stanford Design School or History Museum, Recology center, scheduled as per availability and convenience.
